What Recovery Looks Like

             Freedom From Eating Disorders

Welcome to Freedom From Eating Disorders – providing hope, encouragement and inspiration for your eating disorder recovery. May this site be a haven for your soul.

Please visit often. Put visiting this site on your list of eating disorder coping skills. You can use this site as a distraction from engaging in eating disorder behaviors. On this home page, look for “This Month’s Musings” where you’ll find snippets about various eating disorder factors. In the section, “This Week’s Point to Ponder,” watch for a new verse, quote or thought-provoking question each week which relates to the topic for the month. You may want to use these features for journaling exercises. Perhaps you’d also like to discuss them with your counselor or with others in your support group or on your support message board.

The "Recovery Stories” page contains testimonials of those who have recovered from their eating disorders. May reading these stories encourage you to continue forward in your own eating disorder recovery.

To focus on the special person you are, uniquely created by God, see the "Christian Recovery" page and soak in the truth of those words. You'll also find the Serenity Prayer, an Eating Disorder Prayer, Psalms and information on identity in Christ. This is a great page for anyone who is considering or is in Christian eating disorder recovery.

To educate your loved ones about your eating disorder or if your loved one has an eating disorder, see the "Friends & Family" page. You'll find articles as well as links to other websites.

Find loads of articles, resources and treatment finders as well as message boards and more on the "ED Resources" page. You'll also find links to other great recovery and ministry sites.

When you want a break from everything or if you want something to distract you from eating disorder behaviors, go to the "Coping Skills" page to find reading material, humorous writings and links to humor websites.

During stressful moments, go to the “Serenity” page and enjoy calming pictures. You may want to lose yourself in these photos and take a minute vacation. Or perhaps you'd like to sketch them or write stories or poems about these pictures.

                                   This Month's Musings

What Does Recovery Look Like?

What does it mean to be recovered from an eating disorder?  Does everyone define recovery the same?  For some, it seems that some concerns remain even though they no longer practice eating disorder behaviors.  Some don’t give a thought to what they eat anymore and some continue to use meal plans as a general guideline for healthy eating.  Some do well much of the time, but find themselves sucked back in temporarily through during stressful circumstances.  Recovery doesn’t have to look the same to everyone.

For me, I realize this is a vulnerable area so I have certain boundaries in place.  I don’t know my weight and don’t need to know my weight.  When I initially obtained my meal plan, I hoped it would become a healthy way of eating and that’s exactly what happened.  I don’t follow it rigidly, but I eat an overall balanced diet based on these guidelines.  Yet I don’t hesitate to have occasional treats when the opportunities arise.  I try to pray every day thanking God for my freedom and asking His help in maintaining it.
