Perseverance in Eating Disorder Recovery
Perseverance in eating disorder recovery may seem unrealistic to you. Do you ever want to give up on your eating disorder recovery?  Does perseverance during this process seem impossible?  Does it seem easier to give in to the eating disorder voice than to talk back to it?

Perseverance in eating disorder recovery doesn't come naturally, so if you feel weary and discouraged in your eating disorder recovery, know that you are not alone.  This is all part of the process.  To recover from an eating disorder is an immense challenge.  It took time to develop the eating disorder, and it will take time to break free of it.

Perseverance in eating disorder recovery is something to keep in mind. Eating disorder recovery requires determination, hard work and perseverance.  It may be one of the toughest things you will ever do.  It only makes sense that you’re going to feel discouraged or even defeated from time-to-time.  So try your best not to beat yourself up if you’re having a hard time staying on track.  It takes time to develop perseverance in eating disorder recovery.

There is no secret formula to staying on track.  Also, it’s only natural to lose your resolve from time-to-time.  Even so, let’s look at some ideas that may help you develop perseverance in eating disorder recovery.

1.  Consider what motivates you to move forward.  What led you to begin the recovery process?  Think back to other things that have motivated you in other areas of your life.

2.  What inspires you?  Is it music, poetry, scripture, something completely different?  How can you implement what inspires you into your eating disorder recovery?

3.  Dream of what your life would be like without the eating disorder.  I know that imagining a life without an eating disorder can seem scary in some ways, but think about the ways in which the eating disorder interferes with your life.  Then, picture those areas of your life without the eating disorder holding you back.

4.  Consider the person you’re becoming.  Think of how you’re going to be a stronger person in the future if you develop perseverance now.  Imagine how you’re going to be able to handle challenges once you’ve conquered this one.

5.  Search for scriptures that speak of perseverance and strength.  Meditate on them and hide them in your heart.  Here are some to get you started.

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings; because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”  Rom. 5:3-5

“Have I not commanded you?  Be strong and courageous.  Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”  Josh. 1:9

“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”  Phil. 4:13

“But He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties.  For when I am weak, then I am strong.”  2 Cor. 12:9,10

Perseverance in eating disorder recovery can be yours. Don’t let anything stand in the way of your eating disorder recovery.  Perseverance is one of the keys to breaking free of an eating disorder.  Sometimes you will feel discouraged, but don’t let that keep you down.  As you continue to get back up to fight again, you’ll grow stronger.  God bless you as you strive to develop perseverance in eating disorder recovery.
